Men’s Volleyball 

Vassar lost to Dominican College in three sets (23-25, 18-25, 23-25) in the quarterfinals of the NCAA Division III Championships April 22 in Salem, VA. Andrew Kim ’23 led the Brewers with 14 kills and added a block and three digs. Gavin van Beveren ’23 had eight kills and a service ace.

The Brewers defeated Hiram College in straight sets in the opening round of the national championship tourney April 21. Andrew Kim had two service aces, two block assists, and two digs. Jacob Kim ’24 had 31 assists, two service aces, and five kills. 

Vassar won the United Volleyball Conference Championship April 11, defeating SUNY New Paltz in four sets. SUNY New Paltz won the first set (25-19), but the Brewers won the next three (26-24, 25-21, and 25-21). Van Beveren had a team-high 13 kills, and Andrew Kim added 12. Vassar defeated St. John Fisher in the UVC semifinals in five sets.

Andrew Kim ’23

The Brewers lost to SUNY New Paltz in five close sets April 5 at Kenyon Hall. Vassar lost the first two sets and rallied to win the third and fourth but lost the tiebreaker, 15-11. Andrew Kim led Vassar with 18 kills, and Adam Gulick ’23 added 17.

Vassar defeated sixth-ranked St. John Fisher in back-to-back contests April 2 in Elmira, NY. The Brewers posted 3-1 wins in both matches. Andrew  Kim had 15 kills and three service aces in the second game. Van Beveren paced the Brewers in the opening match with 18 kills.

Vassar split two matches against SUNY New Paltz March 24 on the New Paltz campus. New Paltz won the first in five sets, and the Brewers responded with a 3-0 win in the second. Andrew Kim had 15 kills and three service aces in the second match.

The Brewers opened the season with a pair of 3-0 wins over Elmira March 21 at Kenyon Hall. Andrew Kim had 11 kills and 11 service aces in the first game, and 13 kills and three aces in the second.


Women’s Tennis

Melina Stavropoulos '22

The doubles team of Sofie Shen ’24 and Cara Kizilbash ’22 posted the lone victory in Vassar’s 5-1 loss to Skidmore College May 8 in the finals of the Liberty League Tournament. The Brewers advanced to the finals with a 5-2 victory over St. Lawrence University May 6 on the St. Lawrence campus in Canton, NY. Frances Cornwall ’21 won her #1 singles match and teamed with Melina Stavropoulos ’22 for a victory in doubles.

Shen won her singles match and teamed with Kizilbash for a win in #1 doubles, but Vassar fell to defending Liberty League champion Skidmore, 7-2, May 1 on the Skidmore campus in Saratoga Springs, NY.

Vassar defeated Union College twice in five days, winning six of nine matches April 24 in Schenectady and six of eight contests April 28 on Josselyn Courts. Stavropoulos and Tatum Blalock ’23 won their #1 doubles match, 8-3, in the win on the Union campus. Shen won her #3 singles match in the re-match April 27 and teamed with Kizilbash to win the #2 doubles match. 

Vassar blanked Ithaca College, 9-0, April 17 on Josselyn Courts. Stavropoulos and Blalock won their #1 doubles match, and Blalock was victorious in her #2 singles match, 6-2, 6-1.

Cornwall won her #1 singles match and teamed with Nicole Pihlstrom ’22 for a victory in doubles as Vassar opened the season April 3 with a 7-2 win at Ithaca College. Blalock won her #2 singles match and notched a win in doubles with Stavropoulos.

Men’s Tennis

David Gandham '21

Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute defeated Vassar, 5-3, in the semifinals of the Liberty League Championships May 6 in Troy, NY. Mihajlo Ivanovic ’22 won his singles match and teamed up with Arun Guruswamy ’24 for a victory in doubles.

Vassar’s top three singles players posted victories in the Brewers’ 6-3 loss to Skidmore College May 1 in Saratoga Springs, NY. David Gandham ’21 won by scores of 6-4 and 6-1 in #1 singles. Jay Wong ’24 posted a 6-4, 1-6, 7-5 victory at #2, and Benjamin Almquist ’24 won his #3 match, 6-2, 6-3.

Wong won his singles and doubles matches in an 8-1 victory over Union College April 21 on the Union campus in Schenectady, NY. Wong teamed with Almquist to capture the #2 doubles match, 8-2, and he defeated Union’s Aidan O’Brien, 6-4, 6-3, in singles.

Gandham and Adam Krueger ’21 eked out an 8-7 win in #1 doubles and both won their singles matches as Vassar defeated Ithaca College, 9-0, April 17 on Josselyn Courts.

Gandham won close matches in both singles and doubles to pace the Brewers to a 9-0 win over Ithaca College April 3 on the Ithaca campus. Gandham won his #1 singles match (6-3, 6-4) and teamed up with Krueger for an 8-6 victory in #1 doubles.

 Vassar opened the season with a 6-3 victory over Union College March 27 on Josselyn Courts. Almquist and Guruswamy captured their doubles match, 8-4, and Almquist breezed to a 6-1, 6-0 victory in singles.



Brent Shimoda '21

Vassar finished the season May 9 with a pair of losses against Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute at Prentiss Field. RPI won the first game, 4-0, and took the second by a score of 11-8. Jaden Millstein ’24 had a triple and four RBIs.

The Brewers split a doubleheader with Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute May 8 on the RPI campus in Troy, NY. Vassar dropped the first game, 5-1, but won the second, 10-4. Ezra Caspi ’23 had three hits and knocked in two runs in the second game.

The Brewers swept a doubleheader against Union College May 2 at Prentiss Field by scores of 16-8 and 3-2. Adam Talwalkar ’23 drove in three runs in the first game. In the second game, Matt McGannon ’21 gave up just four hits and one run in seven innings in the second game, and Dawson Dullnig ’22 picked up the save, striking out two of the three batters he faced.

Vassar split a doubleheader at Union College in Schenectady, NY May 1, dropping the first game, 9-5, and winning the nightcap, 12-5. Andrew Kanellis ’23 hit a home run and knocked in five runs in the victory. 

The Brewers swept a doubleheader at Bard College in Annandale-on-Hudson, NY

April 23, winning by scores of 5-3 and 14-8. The following day, Bard defeated Vassar, 5-4 and 15-11, at Prentiss Field. Alex Warren ’23 stroked three singles and a double in the 14-8 win at Bard, and knocked in three runs with a single and a triple in the 15-11 loss in Poughkeepsie.

Ithaca College swept a doubleheader from the Brewers, 4-0 and 13-6, April 14 on the Ithaca campus. Reid Lapekas ’24 had a double and an RBI in the second game. Dullnig pitched two scoreless innings.

Vassar dropped a doubleheader against Ithaca College April 10 at Prentiss Field. The Brewers lost the first game 11-9 and fell by a score of 17-1 in the second. Kanellis and Warren homered in the opener.

Union College swept a doubleheader against the Brewers April 3 on the Schenectady campus, winning by scores of 8-1 and 10-5. Brent Shimoda ’21 homered in the second game.

The Brewers split a doubleheader March 27 at Bard College in Annandale-on-Hudson. Bard won the first game, 10-5, but the Brewers responded with an 8-2 victory in the nightcap. Shimoda had a single and a triple, scored two runs, and drove in another in Vassar’s win. Patrick Fitzgerald ’21 was the winning pitcher, allowing just one run and three hits in five innings. Kanellis homered in the first game.


Women’s Lacrosse

Alessandra Fable ’21

Alessandra Fable ’21 scored three goals in the Brewers’ 19-9 loss at Ithaca College April 24.

Ithaca College defeated Vassar, 21-13, April 23 on Weinberg Turf Field. Caeli Porette ’22 scored four goals and added an assist.

Union College edged Vassar, 19-16, April 16 on Weinberg Field. Fable scored six goals and added an assist.

Goalie Lauren Johns ’24 had 13 saves to help Vassar to a 15-10 victory over Clarkson University April 6 on Weinberg Field. Porette scored three goals and added three assists. Maddy Kretten ’23 and Kateri Sanseviro ’23 each scored twice.

Fable scored six goals and assisted on another in Vassar’s 17-14 win over Union College April 3 on Weinberg Field. The victory avenged a 17-9 defeat on the Union campus on April 2. Porette had three goals and an assist.

Men’s Lacrosse

Maximus Albanese ’23 scored a pair of goals in Vassar’s 19-11 loss to Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute May 5 in Troy, NY.

Vassar fell to Ithaca College, 16-5, May 2 on the Ithaca NY campus. Ryan Metz ’24, James Nicholas ’23, Riley Olds ’23 Troy Santise ’24, and Ian Zumpano ’24 each scored for the Brewers.

Albanese scored six goals, including three in the fourth quarter, to propel the Brewers to an 11-10 victory over Skidmore April 21 on the Skidmore campus in Saratoga Springs, NY.

Union College scored seven of the first nine goals and went on to defeat Vassar, 19-5, April 17 on the Union campus in Schenectady, NY. Albanese scored twice.

Clarkson defeated Vassar, 12-9, April 14 on Weinberg Field. Connor Deehan ’22 scored three goals.

The Brewers opened the season with a 14-5 loss to St. Lawrence University March 27 on Weinberg Field. Goalkeeper Aidan Gallagher ’23 stopped 10 shots.


Women’s Track and Field 

Heather Kwafo ’24 won the gold medal in the long jump at the Liberty League East Championship May 8 at Weinberg Field. Kwafo’s leap of 5.18 meters set a Liberty League record. Hannah Martin ’21 was second in the 1,500-meter run with a time of 4:58.07. Nora Jensen ’24 finished second in the 100-meter hurdles, competing in the event for the first time.

Union College defeated Vassar, 77-64, at Weinberg Turf and Track Complex April 11. Lola Perez-Fry ’23 won the long jump with a distance of 4.96 meters. Martin won the 3,000-meter run in 10:44.87.


Men’s Track and Field

Jack Casalino ’22 finished fourth in the 5,000-meter run May 19 at the All-Atlantic Region Track
and Field Championship at St. John Fisher College in Pittsford, NY. Casalino posted a time of

Ayden Gann ’21 won the Liberty League 800-meter title for the third year in a row May 8 at the Liberty League East Championships at Weinberg Field. The Brewers swept the 5,000-meter run, led by Casalino with a time of 15:16.74. Jake Edington ’21 finished second with a career-best 15:17.31, and Reed Dolan ’21 was third with a time of 15:21.01. Vassar finished third in the meet behind Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute and Union College. Bard College was fourth.

Vassar defeated Union College and Bard College April 9 at the Weinberg Turf and Track Complex. Vassar finished with 76 points, Union had 56, and Bard earned two points. Andrew Blackburn ’24 won the 3,000-meter steeplechase in 10:15.93, and Casalino won the 1,500-meter run in 4:04.08.
