The Brewers managed just four hits in a 12–1 loss to Union College on May 10 in the opening round of the Liberty League Championships in Rochester, NY. Jake Doyle ’19 and Tanner Blough ’21 each hit doubles for Vassar.
Vassar clinched a berth in the Liberty League playoffs with a sweep of a doubleheader against Bard College on May 6 at Prentiss Field. The Brewers won the first game, 4–2, and rolled past the Raptors, 14–6, in the second game. Matt Schwartz ’19 and Hernandez had RBI singles in the first inning to key the win in the opener. Trausch ignited a three-run rally in the first inning of the second game with a run-scoring double.
The Brewers and the Raptors split a doubleheader on May 5 on the Bard College campus in Annandale-on-Hudson, NY. Bard won the first game, 2–0, and the Brewers took the nightcap, 13–9. Trausch’s three-run double in the third inning keyed Vassar’s comeback win in the second game.
Union College defeated Vassar, 7–5, on Apr. 29 on the Union campus in Schenectady, NY. Schwartz knocked in two runs with a double and a sacrifice fly.
Vassar lost a doubleheader to Union College on Apr. 28 at Prentiss Field. The Brewers lost the first game, 2–1, and dropped the second, 9–6. Taylor Smach ’19 homered and drove in three runs in the second game.
Vassar (14–6, 8–1 Liberty League) lost to Skidmore College, 5–1, in the finals of the Liberty League Championships on May 6 on the campus of Ithaca (NY) College. Frances Cornwall ’21 posted the Brewers’ only win in No. 2 singles.
The Brewers advanced to the finals of the Liberty League tournament with a 5–2 victory over St. Lawrence University on May 5 on the campus of Ithaca (NY) College. Cornwall and Kate Christensen ’18 each posted wins in singles and doubles.
Christensen captured her 100th career victory in Vassar’s 8–1 win over Liberty League rival William Smith College on Apr. 28 at the Joss Tennis Courts. Christensen teamed with Morgane Flournoy ’19 to win her doubles match, 8–4, and she won her No. 1 singles match, 6–3, 6–2.
Skidmore College blanked Vassar (7–13, 5–5 Liberty League) in the semifinals of the Liberty League Championships, 5–0, on May 5 at Ithaca College in Ithaca, NY. The Brewers defeated Ithaca in the quarterfinals, 6–3. David Gandham ’21, Adam Krueger ’21, and Jeremy Auh ’20 each posted wins in doubles and singles.
Jamie Anderson ’19 won his singles and doubles matches, but Vassar fell to Hobart College, 5–4, on Apr. 28 at the Joss Tennis Courts. Anderson teamed with Gandham for a 9–7 win in doubles, and he won his No. 5 singles match, 6–2, 6–2.
Storm Sideleau ’18 tied the game with 37 seconds left in regulation time, but the Brewers (5–10, 4–6 Liberty League) fell in overtime, 16–15, to Union College on Apr. 28 at the Weinberg Turf Field. Sideleau and Tessa Waters ’20 each scored five goals.
Waters scored five goals and Olivia O’Loughlin ’18 and Alessandra Fable ’21 each added three as Vassar defeated Liberty League rival Bard College, 21–9, on Apr. 25 on the Bard campus in Annandale-on-Hudson, NY.
Skidmore College scored five early goals and went on to defeat Vassar (2–12, 1–7 Liberty League), 12–5, on Apr. 25 at Gordon Field. Nick Diamond ’20 and Dekker Stebel ’19 each had a goal and an assist.
Vassar set a team scoring record in the Liberty League Championships on Apr. 28 in Canton, NY. The team posted a combined score of 318, one better than the previous school record. The Brewers finished fourth in the eight-team field. Andrea Han ’20 posted the low score of the day for Vassar with a 76, good for sixth place overall. Margaret Liu ’21 tied for 13th with a 79.
Skylar Widman ’20 became the first Vassar sprinter to break the 11-second mark in the 100-meter dash. Widman posted a 10.98 to finish seventh overall at the All-Atlantic Region Track and Field Championships on May 17 at The College at Brockport in Brockport, NY. The Brewers finished 12th in a 24-team field. Widman also set a school record in the 200-meter dash with a time of 21.89. Ayden Gann ’21 was third overall in the 800-meter run with a time of 1:52.82.
Michael Scarlett ’18 finished third overall in the 5,000-meter run on May 16 at the All-Atlantic Region Outdoor Track and Field Championships on the campus of The College at Brockport in Brockport, NY. Philip Brown ’18 was fifth in the 10,000-meter run.
Scarlett broke his own school record in the 5,000-meter run on May 14 at the Swarthmore College Final Qualifier meet on the Swarthmore (PA) campus. Scarlett posted a time of 14:43.12, eight seconds better than his previous mark. Gann posted the 43rd fastest time in the nation among Division III runners in the 800-meter run. Gann was clocked at 1:53.13, finishing 14th overall.
Vassar finished sixth in an eight-team field at the Liberty League Championships on May 4 and 5 in Rochester, NY. Gann won the 800-meter run in 1:54.04 and was named Co-Rookie of the Meet. Joel Johnson ’18 was fourth in the 100-meter dash in 11.14 seconds. Widman was third in the 200-meter dash with a 22.43.
Gann posted the fifth best time of the year in the Atlantic Region in the 800-meter run on Apr. 28 at the Lions Invitational at The College of New Jersey in Ewing Township, NJ. Gann was clocked at 1:54.07. Ry Blume ’19 recorded his collegiate-best time in the event, finishing 10th overall in 1:57.19. Vassar’s 4x100-meter relay team of Widman, Johnson, Jonah Goldberg ’20, and Michael Walsh ’18 finished third with a season-best time of 44.02.
Scarlett set a new school record in the 10,000-meter run on Apr. 26 at the Penn Relays in Philadelphia, PA. Scarlett finished in 31:18.89, breaking the record of 31:25.01 held by Brown.
Savannah Wiman ’18 capped her collegiate career with a 4:46.26 in the 1,500-meter run on May 17 at the All-Atlantic Region Track and Field Championships on the campus of The College at Brockport in Brockport, NY. Vassar finished ninth in a 24-team field. Erin Clark ’20 won the 800-meter run. The 4x800-meter relay team of Wiman, Clark, Eliana Marcus-Tyler ’18, and Sarah Newman ’20 finished second overall.
Kate Lawson ’19 won the 10,000-meter run at the All-Atlantic Region Outdoor Track and Field Championships on May 16 at The College at Brockport in Brockport, NY. Lawson posted a time of 38:59.01. Katie Voegtlin ’18 was third in the 3,000-meter steeplechase.
Wiman and Voegtlin broke school records in two distance races at the Swarthmore College Final Qualifier meet on May 14 on the Swarthmore (PA) campus. Wiman finished the 1,500-meter run in 4:38.16, breaking the old mark of 4:39.07 set by Kelly Holmes ’12 in 2012. Voegtlin finished the 3,000-meter run in 11:10.21, breaking the previous mark of 11:15.33 set by Ava Farrell ’16 in 2016.
Clark won the 800-meter run in 2:16.18 at the Liberty League Championships on May 4 and 5 in Rochester, NY. Sabrina Stacks ’20 won the javelin throw. The Brewers finished sixth in an eight-team field.
Voegtlin, Elsa Erling ’21, Seneca Straub ’21, and Hannah Martin ’21 teamed up to finish third overall in the 4x400-meter relay at the Lions Invitational at The College of New Jersey on Apr. 28 in Ewing Township, NJ. Newman posted the Brewers’ fastest time of the season in the 400-meter dash with a time of 1:01.91.
The Alumnae squad defeated the Varsity, 29–17, on May 5 at the Vassar Farm. Megan Martin ’21 and Alicia Menard-Livingston ’18 scored for the Varsity. Nathalie Freeman ’17 scored the clinching try for the Alumnae.
The Brewers lost to the University of Connecticut, 29–17, on Apr. 28 at the Vassar Farm. Sarah Mawhinney ’18 scored a pair of tries.
The Alumni squad defeated the Varsity, 34–10, on May 5 at the Vassar Farm. Evan Roberts ’20 and Rob Eder ’19 scored for the Varsity. Eli Vargas ’16 scored three tries for the Alumni.
The Varsity 8 finished fourth, ahead of Skidmore College and Binghamton University, in the Grand Final at the New York State Collegiate Rowing Championships on May 5 in Saratoga Springs, NY. The boat won the Petite Final. The Second Varsity 8 finished sixth overall, its best showing since 2003.
Vassar defeated Manhattan College and New York University to win the Petite Final in Men’s 4 with coxswain at the New York State Collegiate Rowing Championships on May 5 in Saratoga Springs, NY. The Novice 4+ defeated Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute but lost to Nazareth College in the Petite Final. The Men’s Open 4+ finished seventh overall.
