The Art of Devastation: Medals and Posters of the Great War will be on display at the Frances Lehman Loeb Art Center through April 9. The exhibition, which features more than 100 World War I medals and several war posters, was co-organized by the American Numismatic Society in New York City.
To honor the 100th anniversary of the graduation of one of its most famous alumnae, Vassar College is hosting a special exhibition on the life of Edna St. Vincent Millay, acclaimed Jazz Age poet. Edna St. Vincent Millay: Treasures From Steepletop will be on view through June 11 in the Thompson Memorial Library and the Art Library.
India in Miniature: Works from the Permanent Collection will be on display in the Frances Lehman Loeb Art Center Landing Gallery through April 23. The exhibition presents works on paper from India comprised of miniature compositions in a spectrum of colors, patterns, and types.
The World After January 20, 2017: Works by Contemporary Artists and Poets will be on display in the James W. Palmer III Gallery, College Center, through February 16. The exhibition will feature poetry, political cartoons, documentary photography, drawings, paintings, and other works that address, reflect, and comment on what the first 100 days of the Donald Trump presidency will mean.
Acclaimed author Zadie Smith will deliver the annual Alex Krieger ’95 Memorial Lecture at 8:00pm on the second floor of the Students’ Building. The event, “An Evening with Zadie Smith,” will feature Smith reading from recent works and an interview of her by Vassar Professor of English Amitava Kumar. A question-and-answer session and book signing will follow.
Friday, February 10
The Vassar Haiti Project’s She Is… Gala will begin at 8:30pm in the Villard Room, College Center. The evening will include food and entertainment and is a celebration of inspiring women in the world. All profits will be donated to a women’s cooperative in Chermaitre, Haiti.
The men’s volleyball Vassar Invitational will begin with a 5:00pm game against the College of Mount Saint Vincent at 5:00pm at the Athletics and Fitness Center, followed by a game against Stevenson University at 7:00pm. The invitational will continue at 11:00am on Saturday, February 11, with a game against Ramapo College of New Jersey, followed by a game against Johnson & Wales University at 1:00pm.
Sunday, February 12
The Vassar Business Club Alumnae/i Winter Panel will include alumnae/i from various majors who work in fields that many might be unfamiliar with. The event, held in the Rockefeller Hall 300 Auditorium, will include a Q&A session, networking, and refreshments.
Thursday, February 16
A Planned Parenthood benefit concert will be held at 7:00pm in the Villard Room, College Center. The concert will feature student performers and information to raise awareness about reproductive rights and women’s health. Funds raised will be donated to Planned Parenthood.
Friday, February 17
The men’s and women’s basketball teams will play Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute at the Athletics and Fitness Center. The women’s game will begin at 6:00pm, followed by the men’s game at 8:00pm.
Saturday, February 18
The women’s tennis team will play Muhlenberg College at noon at Walker Field House.
Wednesday, February 22
The men’s and women’s basketball teams will compete in the Liberty League Championships at the Athletics and Fitness Center. The women will play at 6:00pm, followed by the men at 8:00pm. The men’s volleyball team will play Springfield College at 6:00pm in the Kenyon Hall Gymnasium.
Thursday, February 23
The Joy in Detail: The Incised Paintings of Elayne Seaman, a Retrospective Reception will be on display in the James W. Palmer III Gallery, College Center, through March 16. An opening reception will be held from 5:00 to 7:00pm.
The men’s volleyball team will play The Sage Colleges at 7:00pm in the Kenyon Hall Gymnasium.
Friday, February 24
The Barefoot Monkeys’ Shiva Show: Pirates! will take place at 8:00pm at the Susan Stein Shiva Theater.
Saturday, February 25
The men’s tennis team will play the University of Rochester at 9:00am at Walker Field House. The women’s tennis team will play Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute at 2:00pm at Walker Field House. The men’s and women’s basketball teams will compete in the Liberty League Championships at the Athletics and Fitness Center. The women will play at 2:00pm, followed by the men at 4:00pm.
