The Touch the Sky exhibition will be on display in the Frances Lehman Loeb Art Center Temporary Exhibition Galleries through August 21. It will feature a multimedia display of images of the moon, sun, planets, and stars made by artists since the 19th century. The exhibition comprises historical works from the Art Center’s collection as well as several more contemporary works on loan; artists include Vija Celmins, Chris McCaw, Sharon Harper, David Milan, Mungo Thomson, Lisa Oppenheim, and Trevor Paglen.
The Universal Collection: A Mark Dion Project exhibition will be on display at the Frances Lehman Loeb Art Center through December 11. Dion is a visual artist known for his “cabinets of curiosities” that incorporate found objects into site-specific installations. The objects will be comprised of items drawn from the collections of the Art Center, Special Collections, and Vassar College Artifacts Project.
Monday, August 22
The If Color Could Kill exhibition will be on display in the James W. Palmer III Gallery, College Center, through September 15. It will include the works of eight artists who work with modern pigments to create abstract paintings. Curated by Jeff Frederick, the purpose of the exhibition is to push the boundaries of color and contrast and present artwork that overwhelms the mind.
Tuesday, August 23
The men’s soccer team will scrimmage with Marist College at 6 pm at the Prentiss Sports Complex.
Wednesday, August 24
The women’s soccer team will scrimmage with the University of Bridgeport at 4 pm at the Prentiss Sports Complex.
Sunday, August 28
“Pipe Dreams: An Introduction to the Vassar Organs” will take place from 3:30-4:30 pm in the Chapel and from 4-4:40 pm at Skinner Hall. The event will include a brief lecture and demonstrations on the organs at both venues. Those in attendance will have hands-on time at the organs.
The women’s soccer team will scrimmage with Rutgers University-Newark at 1 pm at the Prentiss Sports Complex. The men’s soccer team will follow with a scrimmage against Dominican College at 3:30 pm.
