On Campus – May 2014 Preview

Monday, May 5

The Vassar College Studio Art Department Student Exhibition Sculpture/Video will be on display in the James W. Palmer III Gallery, College Center, through May 16.

Wednesday, May 7

The On Tap Spring Show will begin at 7 pm at the College Center Mug. The event will feature members of On Tap, Vassar’s tap dance group, performing original numbers.

Thursday, May 8

The men’s baseball team will play in the Liberty League Championships scheduled to begin at 1 pm May 8-10 at the Prentiss Sports Complex. 

AirCappella, Vassar’s co-ed whistling troupe, will host its final concert of the spring semester at 6 pm in the Rockefeller Hall Auditorium.

Friday, May 9

The epic poem Blu, which explores the explosive after-effects of prison, hunger, desire, and war, will be performed at 8 pm on May 9 and at 2 pm and 8 pm on May 10 at the Susan Stein Shiva Theater. The play follows a queer Chicana/o family as they try to envision an earth and sky without police and their helicopters.

The Shakespeare Troupe will present Macbeth at 8 pm on May 9 and 10 at the Blodgett Hall Courtyard.

Saturday, May 10

Matthew’s Minstrels will present its final concert at 7 pm in the Spitzer Auditorium.

Sunday, May 11

The Vassar community will light 1,000 floating tea lanterns and launch them onto Sunset Lake in a celebration beginning at 7:30 pm. The event will provide a chance for Vassar students and others to meditate and share a sense of joy, beauty, and togetherness.

Monday, May 12

P.E.A.C.E. (Promoting Equality and Community Everywhere) Day will bring area elementary school students to campus to enjoy a picnic, see performances, tour the grounds, and participate in activities.

Monday, May 19

The 6th annual Lavender Graduation Reception, in celebration of the accomplishments of LGBTQ and Ally seniors, will begin at 5 pm in Main Building’s Rose Parlor. The event will include food, beverages, and a toast.

Sunday, May 25

The 150th Commencement Ceremony will begin at 10 am at the Outdoor Amphitheater. Physicist Sau Lan Wu ’63 will deliver the commencement address.
