On Campus – January 2014 Preview

Sunday, January 12

The Cappella Festiva Chamber Choir will perform at 4 pm at the Chapel.

Friday, January 17

The women’s basketball team will play William Smith College at 6 pm at the Athletics and Fitness Center. The men’s basketball team will play Hobart College at 8 pm.

Saturday, January 18

The Seven Sisters Championship for the women’s swimming and diving team will begin at 10 am at the Walker Field House’s Kresge Pool and Diving Well. The meet will continue at 10 am on Sunday, January 19.

The women’s and men’s basketball teams will face Rochester Institute of Technology at the Athletics and Fitness Center. The women will play at 2 pm, followed by the men at 4 pm.

Teen Visions ’14 work

Tuesday, January 21

The women’s and men’s basketball teams will play Bard College at the Athletics and Fitness Center. The women’s game will be at 6 pm and the men’s game is at 8 pm.

Thursday, January 23

An Artist Reception for Teen Visions ’14: An Exhibition of Work from the Art Institute of Mill Street Loft will be at 4:30 pm in the James W. Palmer III Gallery, College Center. Mill Street Loft is a pre-college portfolio development program. The exhibit will be on display through February 13.

Modfest ’14: Teen Art, Music, Dance, and the Spoken Word will take place at 6:30 pm in the Villard Room, College Center. The program will feature middle and high school students from arts programs throughout the Mid-Hudson Valley.

Friday, January 24

Michelle Lamunière '88 will deliver the talk "'You Look Beautiful Like That': Photography and Self-Definition in the Portraits of Seydou Keita and Malick Sidibé" at 5:30 pm in the Taylor Hall Auditorium. Lamunière is a photography specialist at Skinner Auctioneers and Appraisers in Boston and Marlborough, Massachusetts. She served for 12 years as a curator in the Department of Photographs at the Harvard Art Museums.

Vassar Jazz Combo

At 9 pm, Modfest ’14: Vassar Jazz Combo will take place in the Villard Room, College Center. The student ensembles will present a colorful variety of jazz styles.

The women’s and men’s basketball teams will take on Clarkson University at the Athletics and Fitness Center. The women will play at 6 pm, followed by the men at 8 pm.

The men’s squash team will play Tufts University at 6:30 pm at the Kenyon Hall Squash Courts.

Saturday, January 25

The women’s and men’s basketball teams will play St. Lawrence University at the Athletics and Fitness Center. The women’s game begins at 2 pm, with the men’s game following at 4 pm.

At 1 pm, the men’s squash team will play Haverford College/Northeastern University at the Kenyon Hall Squash Courts.

The men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams will take on New York University at the Walker Field House’s Kresge Pool and Diving Well.

Francis Fennell

Monday, January 27

Francis Fennell, L. Stanley Bowlsbey professor of education and graduate and professional studies at McDaniel College in Maryland, will discuss mathematics education at 5 pm in the Rockefeller Hall Auditorium. The talk is part of the Vassar Noyce Teacher Scholarship Program.

Wednesday, January 29

Modfest ’14: Readings: Translation as an Art will begin at 4 pm in the Villard Room, College Center. The event will include readings of Arabic, Chinese, French, German, Italian, Hebrew, Japanese, Russian, and Spanish texts in their original tongue and in translation by Vassar students.

The men’s volleyball team will play SUNY New Paltz at 7 pm in the Kenyon Hall Gymnasium.

Thursday, January 30

The Student Music Alumnae/i Showcase will be at 8 pm in the Aula, Ely Hall.

Friday, January 31

The Modfest Cabaret Night will start at 8 pm in the Rose Parlor. The night will include a sampling of the Great American Songbook, including Gershwin, Kern, Porter, Berlin, Rodgers, Sondheim, and more. The concert will feature Music Department students.
