Part of the “Polaroid Years

The Frances Lehman Loeb Art Center presents “Polaroid Years: Instant Photography and Experimentation,” a groundbreaking survey exhibition organized by the museum that brings together Polaroid pictures by 39 artists and collectives from 1972 through the present. Through June 26.

The Art Department presents “Vassar College Studio Art Department Student Exhibitions.” Through May 26.

The Biology Department presents “Transcriptional Activation of the Early Drosophila Genome,” a lecture by Dr. Christine Rushlow, professor, New York University.

The Music Department presents a performance by the Vassar College Orchestra.

The Vassar Prison Initiative presents a screening of the film Broken on All Sides: Race, Mass Incarceration, and New Visions for Criminal Justice in the U.S., followed by a panel discussion featuring the formerly incarcerated, moderated by Professor of Religion and Africana Studies Lawrence H. Mamiya.

The Vassar Student Association presents the Founder’s Day celebration.

Sunday, May 5

The Music Department presents a performance by guest ensembles, featuring virtuosic Balinese Gamelan Gong Suling and Sundanese gamelan degung, accompanied with dance.

Tuesday, May 7

The Biology Department presents “China’s Quest for Technology: From Information to Green Technology,” a lecture by Professor of Geography Yu Zhou.

Wednesday, May 8

The Environmental Studies Program presents the Green Infrastructure Conference, a gathering of several Hudson Valley colleges to discuss planning and implementing green infrastructure, or landscape features mimicking natural systems for processing stormwater.

The English Department presents readings by Vassar playwrights.

Friday, May 10

The Music Department presents “Orpheus with His Lute: Scenes from the Orpheus Operas,” a performance featuring works by Monteverdi, Gluck, Offenbach, and Philip Glass.

Thursday, May 23

The Drama Department presents For Better or For Worse: Sixteen Decades of Wedding Wear at Vassar, an exhibition at the Palmer Gallery. Through June 9.

Saturday, May 25

The Music Department presents a commencement concert for the Class of 2013.

Sunday, May 26

New York State Senator Kirsten Gillibrand will deliver the 149th Commencement Address.
