Men’s Soccer

Ryan Grimme

The Brewers advanced to the second round of the NCAA Division III Championships, defeating Tufts 1-0 on Nov. 10 before falling to Brandeis by the same score the following day. Senior co-captain Zander Mrlik scored the game winner against Tufts with a penalty kick in the second overtime. In the Brandeis game, junior goalkeeper Ryan Grimme made several spectacular saves before Brandeis scored with 30 seconds remaining in regulation. Both games were played on the Brandeis campus in Waltham, Mass. Vassar, the regular season Liberty League champions, finished with a record of 13-5-3.

Women’s Cross Country

Aubree Piepmeier

Junior Aubree Piepmeier finished an impressive 93rd in a field of 276 at the NCAA Division III Cross Country Championships on Nov. 17 in Terre Haute, Ind. Piepmeier earned a berth in the race with a 10th-place finish in the Atlantic Regionals on Nov. 10 in Rochester, N.Y. She was only the sixth Vassar runner in history to qualify for the national championship race.

Men’s Cross Country

Senior Sam Wagner led a strong contingent of Vassar runners to a ninth-place finish in a 44-team field at the Atlantic Regional Championships on Nov. 10 in Rochester, N.Y. Wagner finished 26th overall in a field of 297. Sophomore William Barker, senior Roni Teich, and sophomore Eliot Gerson all finished in the top 60. The strong performance followed a third-place finish in the eight-team Liberty League Championships two weeks earlier.

Women’s Basketball

Cyndi Matsuoka

Freshman Caitlin Drakeley, junior Hannah Senftleber, and sophomore Colleen O’Connell sank clutch free throws in the final 90 seconds as Vassar defeated Wesleyan 63-59 on Nov. 20. The win raised the team’s record to 3-0. On Nov. 18, Delaney Fischer’s corner jumper put Vassar ahead for good in the waning minutes of the Brewers’ 69-62 victory over Nazareth College in the finals of the Onnie’s Classic in Rochester, N.Y. Cyndi Matsuoka had a game-high 24 points. O’Connell finished with 12 points and seven rebounds, and Drakeley had 10 points. The Brewers beat Brockport in the opening game of the tourney on Nov. 17. Matsuoka had 24 points and Drakeley finished with 17.

Men’s Basketball

Vassar’s two-game winning streak was snapped on Nov. 20 with a 63-56 loss to St. Joseph’s Brooklyn on the winners’ home court. On Nov. 17, junior forward John Donnelly scored 14 points, including the game-winning basket, as Vassar defeated Hunter College, 67-66, to win the Vassar Tip-Off Tournament at the Athletics and Fitness Center. Senior Jon Herzog led the team with 16 points. In the opening round game on Nov. 16, Vassar defeated NYU-Poly 69-51. Alex Snyder had 13 points and 17 rebounds.

Women’s Swimming and Diving

Shannon Sara won the breaststroke and 400m individual medley, but the Brewers fell 140-88 to SUNY New Paltz on Nov. 17. The team also took the top two spots in the 200m freestyle relay.

Men’s Swimming and Diving

Matthew Weiss, Lucas Amodio, and Isaiah Hale finished first, second, and fourth, respectively, in the 100m breaststroke during Vassar’s 137-70 loss to SUNY New Paltz on Nov. 17.

Men’s Fencing

Vassar defeated five opponents at the 3rd Annual Matt Lampell Invitational on the Vassar campus on Nov. 18. John Arden, Zach Wilson, and Matt Steinschneider were undefeated during matches against SUNY Albany, RPI, Cornell, Bard, Marist, and SUNY New Paltz. The victories improved Vassar’s record to 8-3. On Nov. 11, the team defeated Army and Yeshiva and lost to Sacred Heart, Haverford, and Stevens Institute of Technology at the Sacred Heart Invitational in Bridgeport, Conn.

Women’s Fencing

Vassar defeated CCNY, SUNY Albany, and Queens College at the Matt Lampell Invitational. Jillian Josimovich, Katie LeClair, Caitlin Clevenger, and Megan Lewis were undefeated. At the Sacred Heart Invitational in Bridgeport, Conn., on Nov. 11, the squad defeated Fairleigh Dickinson, Army, and Yeshiva, and lost to Sacred Heart, Stevens Institute of Technology, Haverford, and Cornell. The team is 6-4 on the season.

Men’s Rugby

Karl Foley and Tom Rafferty scored tries in Vassar’s 22-15 loss to Marist in the finals of the Tri-State Conference Championships on Nov. 18. The team heads into the spring season with an 8-2 record.

Women’s Rugby

Vassar finished its fall season on Nov. 3 with a 39-29 victory over Rutgers to raise its record to 4-3-1. Shanaye Williams and Nichelle Jackson each had two tries in the match, while Nicole Guererro, Dallas Robinson, and Chelsea Boccagno each had one.

Men’s Squash

Vassar finished fourth in the Liberty League Championships on Nov. 18 in Rochester, N.Y. Jake Harris defeated McGee O’Neill of Hobart in a No. 1 match. On Nov. 10, the team dropped 8-1 matches to Fordham and Haverford at the Guy Fawkes Challenge on the Vassar campus.

Women’s Squash

Vassar lost to William Smith College 6-3 and fell to St. Lawrence 9-0 in the Bard College Round Robin on Nov. 18 on the Annandale, N.Y., campus. Avery Siciliano defeated William Smith’s Annie Habacker in five sets. Sanam Khanna and Andrea Fahmy also had wins in the match. Vassar has a 3-2 record.
